Srinagar, Feb 23:  Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday revealed that the government of Jammu and Kashmir has received investment proposals exceeding ₹90,000 crores since the year 2021. He said transforming these proposals into tangible projects remains a top priority for the administration.

Lt. Governor Sinha, while inaugurating a new Girls Hostel at NIT Srinagar, highlighted the transformative impact of the new industrial policy introduced in 2021. This policy, he stated, has attracted significant interest from investors, with groundwork already initiated on proposals worth ₹15,000 crores. Additionally, he noted the establishment of 46 new industrial estates across the Kashmir and Jammu regions.

He further underscored the balanced regional investment distribution, with approximately ₹43,000 to ₹44,000 crores earmarked for the Kashmir Valley and around ₹47,000 crores for the Jammu region. Lt. Governor Sinha expressed confidence in the timely implementation of a substantial portion of these proposals within the current year.

“Approximately Rs. 43000-44000 Crores investment come up in Valley and 47000 Crores proposals have come in Jammu region,” he said.

Lt. Governor said the top priority of the UT administration is to transform these proposals into tangible reality. “I am confident that within this year, a major portion of these proposals will be implemented on the ground,” he said.

On the occasion, LG Sinha congratulated the NIT management, faculty members, and students.

“The facility is dedicated to our daughters who are breaking the barriers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics- STEM education and ready to shape the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem,” he said.

He highlighted on developing a specialized workforce to meet the industry demands who should also be capable of solving local challenges.

“The biggest responsibility of the institutions like NIT today is to create a new generation of innovators. We should focus on developing an Innovation-driven economy in Amrit Kaal to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in the country,” he said.

LG also urged NIT’s faculty members to create a conducive environment for future-oriented capacity building of students and strengthening the synergy between educational institutions and industries.

“We must also ensure increased participation of women in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics courses,” he said.

During his visit to NIT, LG Sinha highlighted the significant transformation in the educational landscape of the country under the leadership of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Today, our educational institutions are evolving into hubs of cutting-edge learning programs. With the diverse opportunities offered to our talented youth, we are poised to excel in the global knowledge economy in the future,” he said.

The inauguration of the state-of-the-art hostel marks a substantial stride in providing residential facilities for female students on the campus.

In his address, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath said that expressed his heartfelt gratitude to LG Sinha for inaugurating this state-of-the-art facility.

“The foundation stone for the mega project was laid in March  2021, by LG Manoj Sinha. The vision and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping this dream into a reality. We are deeply grateful for your continued commitment to the development of NIT Srinagar and the welfare of our students,” he added.

Prof. Nath said that the facility was developed at a total cost of Rs. 13.13 crores. This investment is not just in a building but in the future of our students.

“It is designed to be a home away from home for our female students, providing them with a comfortable and conducive environment. Our goal is to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their highest aspirations,” he said.

Regarding challenges, the Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Nath said there is a shortage of academic & residential spaces on the campus. This hostel, with its capacity to accommodate 190 students, addresses this issue head-on, he added.

“I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in making this project a reality — the office of the Dean Planning & Development, CPWD, Engineers, construction teams, and all those who contributed their time and effort to bring the facility into a reality,” he added.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof.Atikur Rahman also expressed gratitude to the LG Sinha-led UT administration for their continuous support in developing the campus.

IGP Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, and senior faculty members of NIT Srinagar also attended the event.
