Srinagar, March 07: Jammu and Kashmir has achieved 100 percent coverage during the 3-day nationwide pulse polio immunization drive for children below the age of five years who were administered the polio drops.
Dr Tabasum Jabeen, Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization, J&K said in the three days starting from March 03, the department achieved 100 percent achievement with 18,90,108 children immunized with polio drops.
“Total target of children of J&K UT, who were to be administered polio drops was 18,58,030, with 10,67,627 children of Kashmir division and 7,90,403 of Jammu division,” she said.
At all the district headquarters, the campaign was inaugurated by the respective DCs. A total of 10,799 booths manned by 49,929 trained health workers, vaccinators and 2,169 supervisors along with 549 mobile & 835 transit teams were deployed across the J&K.
“On the first day of the program a total of 9,79,428 were given drops in Kashmir division and 6,71,677 were given drops in Jammu division,” Dr Tabasum said.
On the second day, teams conducted house-to-house visits to ensure coverage of those missed during the booth activity. “On this day a total of 71,095 received drops in Kashmir while in Jammu 1,04,040 were given drops,” she said.
On the third day, which is also door-to-door activity day, total of 17,424 were immunized in Kashmir while in Jammu 46,444 children were given drops. She said in total, in three days, J&K achieved 100 percent achievement with 18,90,108 children immunized with polio drops.
The Director Family Welfare lauded the efforts of all the staff of Family Welfare Department of J&K and appreciated the exceptional dedication of very one demonstrated in the implementation of the Pulse Polio Programme.
The Director further added that it was the tireless work and perseverance of workers that helped in achieving 100 percent target and overcoming challenges in reaching remote and hard to reach areas.
