Sonamarg, March 16: The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first-ever Method of Instruction Course in Skiing (MOI-01), held from February 22 to March 7 at Sonamarg.
Designed to enhance the teaching capabilities of aspiring ski instructors, the intensive 14-day course was led by Col. Hem Chandra Singh, Principal of JIM&WS, and Everester Mahfooz Ilahi, a highly accomplished skier and mountaineer. The programme attracted participants from across India, including three trainees from Jammu and Kashmir—Tajinder Singh, Mudasir Yaqoob Najar, and Mr Tahir Shafi.
The trainees received hands-on instruction in advanced skiing techniques and teaching methodologies, equipping them with the skills necessary to become proficient ski instructors. The course also focused on essential safety measures, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Col. Hem Chandra Singh lauded the success of the programme, stating that it marks a significant step in developing world-class skiing instructors in India. He emphasised that with experts like Mahfooz Ilahi leading the training, the course provided an invaluable platform for mastering both skiing techniques and instructional strategies. This pioneering initiative has been hailed as a landmark achievement, not only for JIM&WS but also for the promotion of winter sports in India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where skiing holds immense potential for growth. With the course’s successful conclusion, the participants are now eager to apply their newly acquired skills, contributing to the future of skiing instruction and winter sports development in the country.
