Poonch, Jan 10: Javed Ahmed Rana, President Pir Panjal JKNC and former MLA Mendhar, on Wednesday raised serious concern over the alleged embezzlement of funds earmarked for various government schemes.
According to Rana, the schemes under scrutiny include those administered by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Tribal funds, District Plan, and State Plan.
Expressing concern over the misuse of these funds intended for development initiatives, the NC leader emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the alleged financial irregularities. He underscored the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds, particularly those directed towards fostering economic development, infrastructure enhancement, and the welfare of marginalized communities.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the residents of Mankote and adjoining areas due to ceasefire violations, Rana criticized the government’s “failure” to address people’s issues, including the absence of basic amenities, better roads, quality education, and healthcare facilities. He urged the government to take immediate action to provide essential services to the border areas.
He called upon the government to grant ownership rights of custodian lands to the people residing in the border areas, stressing the importance of securing the rights and livelihoods of the local population.
Meanwhile, the National Conference staged a protest at Mankote Block on Wednesday, seeking the restoration of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. Led by Javed Ahmed Rana, the protesters assembled in Block Mankote to highlight the pressing need for revitalizing grassroots democracy in the region.
Addressing the media during the protest, Rana voiced concerns over the expiration of the tenure of elected members of Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats, signalling a troubling decline in grassroots democracy. He emphasized the lack of acceptance for the continuation of District Development Councils, likening it to an ad-hoc system.
The senior NC leader asserted that the National Conference remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding democratic values and advocating for the welfare of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
