Jammu, Oct 15: In a significant development in the health care sector of Jammu, the 300-bedded high-tech Bone and Joint Hospital was made functional today after over four years.
The officials revealed that the OPD services of the Orthopaedic Department were shifted from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu, to the newly constructed Bone & Joint Hospital.
The high-tech Bone & Joint Hospital is adjacent to the GMC-Jammu and its functioning is expected to ease the undue patient load on the GMC-Jammu, the premier hospital of this region.
“Over 300 patients visited the Bone & Joint Hospital on the first day today for availing OPD services,” Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr Sanjeev Gupta, informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “We will start admitting the patients in Bone & Joint Hospital within 3-4 days after analysing all aspects like patient influx and availability of resources at our disposal”.
The entire Orthopaedic Department will be shifted from the GMC-Jammu to the Bone & Joint Hospital within a short period of time. The patients with ortho related problems will be provided high-tech treatment at the Bone & Joint Hospital, which until now was not available in the GMC-Jammu and patients had to go to nearby Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
The Operation Theatres (OTs) with ultra modern machines and equipment will also be made operational within days after which the patients will be able to avail the treatment at par with any healthcare institute in the country.
There are six OTs in the Bone & Joint Hospital and once they become fully functional, they will cater to the heavy patient load of the Jammu region which at present is entirely on the GMC-Jammu.
As per officials, hip replacement, joint replacement, knee surgery and replacement, ankle surgery, multiple fracture surgery and required interventions in case of accident, surgery related to sports will all be performed in this high-tech hospital.
