Jammu, Aug 02: Jammu experienced a severe power crisis on Friday, affecting nearly half of the city and many surrounding areas with Smart Meters. The crisis, exacerbated by hot and humid conditions, led to significant inconvenience for residents.
Smart Metered areas were particularly hard hit, facing over 15 power cuts from early afternoon until late evening. The disruptions persisted as of the latest reports.
The Chief Engineer of Transmission, Rajan Gupta, attributed the power crisis to a major technical issue at the Burn Power Station. “Technical experts and other concerned personnel are on-site to address the snag,” Gupta told Rising Kashmir. The outage has necessitated power cuts across various areas to maintain supply balance.
The affected regions included Old Jammu City, Jewel Chowk, Gummat, Science College areas, Bhagwati Nagar, Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Rajpura, Mahesh Pura, Rehari, Amphalla, and others. Residents in these areas experienced intermittent power supply—approximately half an hour of electricity followed by 1-2 hours without power—throughout the day and into the night, exacerbating the discomfort during the ongoing heatwave.
