Awantipora, June 18: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) hosted a vibrant Open Day today, drawing an enthusiastic participation of more than 3000 students and teachers from various government and private educational institutions across all districts of Kashmir.
Organized by the Office of the Dean Academic Affairs, the event aimed to provide prospective students a first-hand experience of the academic environment, state-of-the-art scientific infrastructure, and diverse learning opportunities offered by the university.
The university campus Awantipora and Alamdar Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology Budgam buzzed with activity as students, faculty, staff, and university officers engaged with visitors, offering insights into academic programs, research, and student life at IUST. Various academic departments set up interactive exhibits curated and presented by their students, showcasing departmental strengths through drone technology, advanced camera systems, innovative product prototypes, digital displays, student research projects, and more.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. A.H. Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, emphasized the university’s mission to broaden access to higher education. “IUST is committed to reaching every student who dreams of a university education. We aim to promote academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth through engagement and exposure.”
A key attraction of the day was a Food Exhibition, where students and alumni of IUST set up culinary stalls celebrating local cuisine and entrepreneurial spirit. The exhibition highlighted the university’s focus on practical learning and alumni engagement.
62 students of SPMR College complete internship at JKEDI
Jammu, June 17: The first batch of 62 students of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu successfully completed their summer internship at the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI).
The students pursuing Bachelors in Business Management (BBA) from the Government Sri Pratap Memorial Rajput College of Commerce (SPMR), Jammu underwent a 10-day (60-hour) internship, which commenced on June 4, 2025, at Bari Brahmana campus of the institute. As per National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines, the internship program aimed at developing the entrepreneurial and research acumen among students, research aptitude and teamwork skills.
During the program, the students were introduced to the role and functioning of the JKEDI. They gained exposure to the program verticals of the institute, all aimed at promoting entrepreneurship as a viable career choice in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.
On the valediction ceremony, the Secretary Industries and Commerce Department, Sh. Khalid Jahangir (JKAS), who also holds the charge of Director JKEDI, addressed the students. He encouraged the interns to adopt an innovative mindset in embracing entrepreneurship, expressing hope that many would become future entrepreneurs and startup founders. He also invited the students to participate in an upcoming Idea Generation Competition being organized by the institute under J&K Startup Policy 2024-27. On the occasion, internship certificates were also handed over to the interns upon successful completion of the program.
The internship program was conducted by a team of expert faculty of the JKEDI who under the overall supervision of Director JKEDI.
