Anantnag, March 17: A group of women here in this south Kashmir district on Friday staged a peaceful protest against the recent horrific murder of a woman in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
The protest was held at the Clock Tower Lal Chowk Anantnag under the banner of the Anganwadi Helpers’ Workers’ Association Jammu and Kashmir. The protesting women chanted slogans against the culprit and advocated the death penalty for him to set an example for society.
“The increasing violence against women is alarming, and the recent incident in Budgam has increased the fear of violence; so we are protesting it and demanding justice for the family,” Fameeda Akhtar, a protester said.
“The perpetrator must be punished as soon as possible. We feel insecure today because of these cases,” another protester said, adding that women are concerned and scared after such incidents.
We want women to feel safe wherever they go or work, the protesters said, adding that society must create an environment in which women feel safe, the angry women said.
They said the government must expedite justice for the victim’s family and set a good example for criminals before they commit any crime,.
Last week, a 30-year-old woman was killed and cut into pieces in Budgam which led to protests in the area and elsewhere.
