Srinagar, May 27: As part of the G-20 celebrations, a special lecture on the sustainable management of natural resources was conducted at Islamia College, Srinagar. The esteemed guest speaker for the event was Janab Khurshid Ahmad Ganie, IAS, former advisor to the lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Professor (Dr.) Khursheed A. Khan, the Principal of the College, who expressed the importance of maintaining a clean, green, and healthy environment to create better living spaces. Professor Khan highlighted the various events, workshops, and seminars organized both within and outside the college campus as part of the G-20 celebrations. These activities aimed to promote appropriate strategies and policies for the sustainable management of natural resources.
Dr. Showkat Yousf Beigh, Head of the Botany department, extended his gratitude to the College administration for inviting Janab Khurshid Ahmad Ganie, an eminent personality from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, to deliver the lecture. Professor Abdul Majid emphasized the need to enhance and protect our natural resources, environment, and ecology through effective consultation.
Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Jhat, the Chief Coordinator of G-20 programs in the College, expressed his appreciation for the continuous support provided by the college administration in organizing various events under the G-20 initiative.
The keynote speaker, Khurshid Ahmad Ganie, IAS, Former Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, delivered an insightful presentation on global warming, the average temperature rise, the greenhouse effect, natural resources, their distribution, and the formulation of appropriate strategies and policies for a clean, green, and healthy environment. He emphasized the importance of improving the policy framework through effective consultation with all stakeholders, including academia, think tanks, and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir. Khurshid Ahmad Ganie expressed concerns that if anthropogenic activities continue on the same trajectory, future generations will be left with depleted natural resources.
The event saw active participation from a large number of students, including those from the Postgraduate programs in Botany, Zoology, IPG, and Honors, as well as students from other departments. During their interactions with the keynote speaker, the students discussed various ways to protect natural resources for future generations.
