Kulgam, June 6: The Irrigation and Flood Control Department, subdivision Kulgam, took decisive action today as it launched an extensive anti-encroachment drive in the Frisal area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The primary objective of the operation was to reclaim the illegally occupied embankments along the Nallahs, according to officials.
Having previously issued multiple public notices, the subdivision Kulgam had duly informed encroachers in the village of Frisal about the impending action and provided them with a specific timeframe to remove their constructions from the Nallah embankments.
“On Tuesday, we initiated the drive to retrieve the encroached areas along the Nallah. This operation was conducted along the ‘Lakti Khull,’ which is a branch of the Sonmam Canal in the Frisal area,” stated an official from the Irrigation Department.
Emphasizing that this initiative is an ongoing process, the official highlighted that encroachers have been repeatedly warned to remove any unauthorized structures erected on the Nallah banks, bearing the costs themselves.
The operation is being carried out in accordance with the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act of 2010, the official further clarified.
During today’s operation, three brick walls, twelve tin walls, three bathrooms, and fifty-four small and large trees, all illegally erected on the Nallah banks of the Sonmam Canal, were successfully removed. The official noted the presence of local police and CRPF personnel during the drive, ensuring the maintenance of peace and order.
