Srinagar, Aug 09: In connection with the celebration of International Youth Day (IYD) 2024, the Government College of Education (GCOE), M.A. Road, Srinagar, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir AIDS Control Society (JKACS) has commenced organising a series of activities leading up to the main event on August 12, 2024.
The series of activities began on Friday, with an inter-college poster-making competition on the theme of HIV/youth, followed by a short message/placard-making competition on HIV/AIDS.
The event was inaugurated by Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division Colleges, Prof. Seema Naz. In her welcome address, Dr. Naz emphasised the importance of youth involvement in HIV awareness campaigns.
Dr. Imtiyaz, Assistant Director JKACS, was also present on the occasion.
The event aimed to raise awareness about HIV among youth and encourage creative expression on this critical issue. The participants showcased their artistic talents and conveyed powerful messages through their posters. Each poster reflected unique perspectives on the theme and was judged based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and clarity of the message.
24 Participants from different colleges in Srinagar City took part in the poster-making competition, and 20 participants took part in the short message/placard-making competition on HIV/AIDS. The performances were judged by Iftikhar Jaffar, Ex-HOD Department of Applied Art, University of Kashmir, and Arshad Sauleh, Department of Art, GCOE.
Arsalan Tawheed of Sri Pratap College, Tabish Rather, and Manzoor Hussain of Govt. College of Education secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively, in the poster-making competition, whereas in the short message/placards competition, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions went to Manzoor Hussain of Govt. College of Education, Shehzeeb Amin of Vishwa Bharti Women’s College, and Afeef Zullah of Islamia College of Science & Commerce, respectively.
Participation certificates were distributed among the participants, and merit certificates will be awarded to the first three position holders in each category during the main event on August 12, 2024.
The poster-making competition and the short message/playcard-making competition on HIV/AIDS were organised by the Red Ribbon Club and the Department of Art Education of the host college.
