Jammu, June 03: On the second day of the internship programme organised by the department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, senior news editor from ET Now, Sumit Chaturvedi engaged students on business reporting, offering them a clear picture about the skills required to excel in this dynamic field.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. The senior news editor shared insights into the fast-paced world of business journalism, emphasizing the importance of accuracy, clarity, and analytical thinking in reporting financial news. “Business reporting is not just about numbers; it’s about telling the story behind the data and its impact on people and markets,” the correspondent remarked, encouraging students to develop a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of economic trends. The session covered key aspects of the trade, including interpreting financial statements, covering market trends, and crafting compelling narratives for diverse audiences. Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, expressed her gratitude to the guest speaker for enriching the students’ learning experience. “Such interactions bridge the gap between academia and industry, aligning with the National Education Policy’s focus on experiential learning,” she said and added that such academia-industry collaborations have been possible only because of the various initiatives taken by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai.
She further appreciated the principal, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Prof Geetanjali Rana, who took the initiative to provide the students an opportunity to learn from the best experts, get exposure to national media houses and experience the university learning environment along with hands-on-training. Earlier, the session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students posed questions on topics ranging from the role of digital media in business reporting to career opportunities in the field. Other faculty members of the department, including Prof Dushyant Kumar Rai, Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, Dr Ramiyan Bharadwaj and Kumerjit Chajgotra also engaged students during different sessions.
