Jammu, Apr 08: Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Dr Abhijeet Singh Jasrotia on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the INDI Alliance MLAs, accusing them of misleading voters and disrupting the J&K Assembly proceedings over the Waqf Amendment Act.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, Dr Jastoria, flanked by Dr Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge J&K BJP, and party leader Amit George, alleged that the alliance was deliberately creating chaos to distract from their failure to address core governance issues.
“Since this Gathbandhan government has failed to deliver in the past six months, they are resorting to diversionary tactics to avoid accountability,” he said, describing the Assembly uproar as a “planned conspiracy” to mislead the public.
Defending the Waqf Amendment Act passed by Parliament, the BJP spokesperson cited Article 252 Clause 2, stating that the matter is currently sub judice and disrupting legislative proceedings over it is a misuse of taxpayers’ money. “This is a betrayal of public trust. These MLAs are wasting valuable time and public resources instead of addressing real issues faced by the people,” he asserted.
He also criticised the opposition parties for remaining silent during the parliamentary debate on the Act. “Why didn’t they raise objections in Parliament? Their current drama is meant only to cover up their governance failures,” he said.
Dr Jasrotia further accused the INDI Alliance of jeopardising the livelihoods of Pashmanda Muslims, especially those dependent on the ongoing tourist season. “Do they want to take away the livelihood of those operating Shikaras and Rehris?” he asked, challenging the opposition to cite any genuine welfare initiatives taken for marginalized Muslim communities.
Targeting parties such as the National Conference (NC), the BJP leader recalled unfulfilled election promises. “For seventy years, they have misled the people with empty slogans. They are repeating the same deception now,” he said.
He demanded legal action against those disrupting Assembly proceedings and questioned the effectiveness of the Waqf Board in delivering educational support, healthcare facilities, scholarships, and pensions to the community.
Referring to the Sachar Committee report, Dr Jasrotia said it “exposed the hollow claims” made by these parties regarding Muslim welfare. “Just like they misled the country over the CAA and NRC, they are doing it again with the Waqf Act,” he added, naming even a former Deputy Speaker among those he accused of deceiving voters.
The BJP spokesperson slammed the INDI Alliance for “hypocrisy”, saying the same Waqf Act is being considered for adoption in Kerala, where the alliance is in power. “These parties bend laws to suit their vote-bank politics,” he said.
