Srinagar, Jan 26: In a groundbreaking initiative, the Income Tax Department, Srinagar commemorated the 75th Republic Day by organizing a Walkathon on Thursday. The event aimed to foster a profound sense of duty among citizens, emphasizing adherence to constitutional ideals, upholding the rule of law, safeguarding national unity, protecting public assets, and promoting responsible tax compliance.
The Walkathon, led by M.P Singh, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K and Ladakh, commenced at 09:00 AM from the Income Tax Office, Rajbagh, Srinagar.
The route covered significant landmarks including Jhelum River Front, Convent Road, Jawahar Nagar Chowk, Hotel Radisson Collection, and concluded at Aayakar Bhawan.
Approximately 60 officers and staff, including female officials, participated with fervor, carrying National Flags and banners while chanting patriotic slogans.
M.P. Singh proudly expressed that this marked the first instance of a Central Government Department organizing such an event in Srinagar.
He highlighted the evolving sense of belongingness and inclusiveness in J&K, emphasizing the region’s strides towards peace and prosperity, fulfilling the aspirations of every Indian citizen.
This event was part of a series organized by the Income Tax department to raise awareness on cleanliness, tax compliance, and other social issues.
M.P. Singh affirmed the department’s commitment to organizing such events in the future, aiming to contribute to the citizens’ civic responsibility and societal well-being.
Addressing the media after the event, M.P. Singh stressed the duty of every citizen to maintain cleanliness in public spaces, urging them to undertake cleanliness drives in their respective areas.
Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, Shakil Ahmad Ganie, expressed gratitude to the district administration, traffic, and police authorities for their support in ensuring a smooth and hassle-free event.
