Income Tax Dept reaches out to stakeholders to improve TDS compliance, address taxpayer grievances

Srinagar, Dec 03: A n outreach program for sensitising the TDS deductors for ensuring better compliance and resolving their queries and taxpayers’ grievance was organised by the office of CIT(TDS), Chandigarh in collaboration with University of Kashmir at Gandhi Bhawan, Hazratbal Campus.
The event was presided by Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Vikram Sahay, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K and Ladakh and J. S Kahlon, Commissioner of Income Tax -1 (TDS), Chandigarh. Priyanka Singla, Addl. Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Range Ludhiana, Shakeel Ahmed Ganie, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, Dharmendra Gupta, ITO (TDS), Jammu and Gulzar Ahmed Malik, ITO (TDS), Srinagar were also present. Senior police officers of the valley, Tahir Ashraf Bhatti, SSP(CID), Srinagar and Smt. Tanushree, SSP(CIA) also graced the occasion.
Senior management, representatives of government organisations, professionals and DDOs from University of Kashmir along with other tax deductors attended the program. The event was organised as an interactive session between the department and the attendees. During the event, the importance of Income Tax in general and TDS in particular as a vital and significant instrument of socio economic development was highlighted and emphasised.
While discussing the various responsibilities of deductors as entailed under the income Tax Act, the audience was profoundly engaged in a dialogic two-way interaction and various queries raised by the attendees were addressed accordingly.
During the interactive session, Vikram Sahay, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, J & K and Ladakh reiterated the department’s commitment in resolving the grievances of the taxpayers and the deductors while also emphasising on the importance of progressive taxation and voluntary compliance for overall sound fiscal management of the country. J. S Kahlon, Commissioner of Income Tax-1 (TDS), Chandigarh, during the event interacted with the media fraternity and emphasised the role of TDS in the budgetary process of Government of India and taking the opportunity encouraged the deductors to educate themselves about the latest amendments in the law in order to render their duties effectively.
The stakeholders present in the meeting appreciated the efforts of the Department in conducting outreach programmes in the Valley.
The officers and officials namely Prof. Naseer Iqbal (Registar), Sh. Majid Zamaan (Controller Examination), Prof. M. S. Bhat (Dean Reaseach), Smt. Zafira Bashir (Chief Accounts Officer), Prof. Maroof Qadri (Driector IT and SS) of Kashmir University thanked the Income Tax Department for conducting the program. It was proposed and communicated that more such events may be organised for better awareness among the taxpayers and the TDS deductors.
