Pulwama, Sept 12: A team of specialist doctors from the Rotary Club of India undertook a 10-day medical camp at District Hospital (DH) Pulwama, during which they successfully performed a staggering 278 surgeries.
Talking to Rising Kashmir Medical Superintendent of DH Pulwama, Dr. Abdul Gani Dar said that out of the 278 surgeries performed, approximately 200 were in the field of ophthalmology, with an additional 78 encompassing orthopaedic, gynaecological, and general surgeries.
The team of dedicated doctors commenced their mission on September 4th, providing critical medical care to the local community.
Dr. Dar said that three modular theatres were made available for their use, enabling the team to perform an average of 30 to 40 surgeries daily.
He said that the team was supported by doctors and para-medical staff from DH Pulwama.
“The team of doctors has greatly assisted us in addressing the backlog of surgeries that had accumulated at DH Pulwama due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors,” Dr. Dar said.
He expressed his deep gratitude to the Rotary Club of India for their unwavering support and dedication to the cause.
Furthermore, he extended his appreciation to the local administration, particularly the LG administration, for their support in organizing this 10-day camp at DH Pulwama.
The Rotary Club’s medical team didn’t limit their efforts to DH Pulwama alone; they ventured into various areas of South Kashmir, extending their expertise to perform numerous surgeries.
This mission builds upon the Rotary Club’s successful medical initiatives in the region.
Last year, the Rotary Club visited North Kashmir, where they conducted an impressive 4,000 surgeries, including 850 at DH Kupwara.
One of the doctors from the Rotary Club of India expressed his satisfaction with the mission.
“We found the staff at DH Pulwama to be incredibly cooperative, and we enjoyed their unwavering support. We delivered more than we had expected and engaged in a two-way exchange of expertise with the doctors at DH Pulwama,” the doctor said.
