Pulwama, July 19: A man died due to electrocution in the Ratnipora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district while working to fix a tube well on Friday.
Abdul Hamid Reshi, son of Ghulam Hassan Reshi, according to witnesses, was handling a rod that accidentally came into contact with an overlaying high-tension (HT) power line in the Mirbagh area of Ratnipora.
Reshi immediately fell unconscious after receiving the electric shock.
Reshi, the father of two, was rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Kakapora where the medical staff declared him dead on arrival.
Local said they had appealed to authorities to maintain the height of the HT line to ensure safety.
The AEE of the area said the HT line has been maintained at a good height. “The line has a minor dip but it poses no threat in normal conditions,” he said, adding that Reshi was removing a 20-feet-long GI pipe from the tube well, which inadvertently touched the HT line, leading to the fatal accident.
He said they didn’t receive any application from residents concerning the height of the HT line. “We received an application a few days ago for shifting the line,” he said, adding that shifting of such a line is taken care of by a competent authority. The AEE described the death of Reshi as an “unfortunate incident”.
