Srinagar, April 20: The Regional Centre Srinagar of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) hosted a landmark event on Sunday at the SKIMS Soura auditorium, featuring the release of its annual publication ‘Achievements 2024–25’ and an induction programme for students admitted to the January 2025 session.
The book release ceremony was graced by a host of distinguished dignitaries, including Prof Dr Mohd Ashraf Ganie (Director, SKIMS), Prof Naser Iqbal (Registrar, University of Kashmir), Prof G.H. Yatoo (Head, Department of Hospital Administration, SKIMS), Dr Zafar (Incharge, CRC Bemina), Dr Aijaz Ashraf (Regional Director, MANUU), principals of various Government Degree Colleges, and coordinators and academic counsellors from IGNOU study centres across the region. The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with the auditorium filled to capacity.
In his welcome address, Regional Director Dr A.H. Rizvi highlighted key accomplishments showcased in the book, noting IGNOU Srinagar’s pivotal role in enhancing academic access and excellence in the region. The achievements include—conducting academic counselling sessions to facilitate student learning, monitoring practical sessions to ensure experiential learning, successfully organising term-end examinations while upholding academic integrity, providing robust student support services including guidance and mentorship, promoting community engagement among students and faculty and contributing significantly to the educational and developmental fabric of the Kashmir Valley.
Dr Rizvi credited the achievements to the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Uma Kanjilal, Director (RSD) Dr Manorma Singh and the collective efforts of various schools, units and study centres. He also praised Dr Abdullah (Assistant Regional Director) and Bhanwar Singh (Assistant Registrar) for their exemplary contributions.
Dignitaries present commended the Regional Centre’s efforts in streamlining academic, administrative, and financial processes, and hailed the publication as a true reflection of IGNOU’s commitment to accessible, quality education in the Valley. In a parallel session, an induction programme was conducted for newly admitted students of the January 2025 session. Dr Abdullah introduced the students to IGNOU’s academic structure, policies, and extensive support services, while encouraging active engagement with the university’s learning ecosystem. The event not only celebrated past achievements but also laid the foundation for continued academic enrichment. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting IGNOU Srinagar’s growing reputation as a beacon of open and inclusive higher education in the region.
