Jammu, Sept 11: In the wake of recent heavy rainfall in the Jammu region, the city is experiencing severe traffic disruptions as the entire Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed under the Smart City Project has become inoperative, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
Massive traffic congestion has become a daily ordeal across Jammu City.
“Many roads have been washed away at multiple locations, potholes are widespread, traffic lights are non-functional, and there is minimal traffic movement on the 4th Tawi Bridge,” SSP Traffic, Farooq Kaiser, told Rising Kashmir.
Sources said that Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) had previously handed over the management of the city’s traffic light system to the Traffic Department.
“We have floated tenders worth Rs 7 crore for the annual maintenance of the traffic signals. To restore the signals immediately, we have requested the respective company to make the systems operational at a cost of Rs 14 lakhs,” the SSP added.
It is noteworthy that currently, not a single traffic signal across Jammu City is functional, leading to chaos and long traffic jams, especially during peak hours.
The SSP assured that traffic flow will improve once all signals are restored. He further mentioned that tenders are in progress to expedite the repair and maintenance of the traffic management system.
