Health deptt formulates roadmap to achieve sustainable dev goals

Srinagar, Jan 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has formulated a roadmap to achieve all the desired goals contained in its vision and mission in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, Bhupinder Kumar, said the department is working vigorously working to achieve all the desired goals contained in its vision and mission in line with the SDGs.
Kumar said by 2030 the department will ensure universal access to safe, assured and quality essential healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive, family planning services for the well-being of women in the reproductive age group.
“J&K has achieved the global target of reducing Under-5 mortality rate to at least 25 per 1000 live births and 100 percent immunization for children in the age group of  9-11 months (fully immunized) and efforts are afoot to further improve upon the targets,” he said.
The health department is also working on population stabilization by focusing on sustaining replacement level of fertility.
“We are establishing comprehensive primary healthcare delivery system and well-functioning linkages with secondary and tertiary care health delivery systems to provide quality health care,” he said.
The Health Department is also working on strategies to reduce the incidence of communicable and non-communicable diseases to limit the rapid health transition.
“By 2030, we will reduce one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being,” Kumar said.
By 2030, it aims to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.
He said the roadmap for the next five years also includes regulation and promotion of rational use of drugs in Jammu and Kashmir for which measures are being taken.
“In coming five years J&K would be having a world class infrastructure including two AIIMS, 09 GMCs, 15 Nursing Colleges, two SCIs, Two B&J hospitals besides full coverage of Health facilities with geographical presence across UT coupled with Universal Health Insurance Cover for entire population and technical interventions through ABDM, Tele MANAS, E- Sanjeevani etc. will be a game changer in health sector in UT with population of 1.40 Cr only is phenomenal,” he said.
