Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Run For Unity’, on the occasion of the 148th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in Delhi on Tuesday and administered the pledge to fulfil the vision of Sardar Patel.

Home Minister Shah administered the Unity oath at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.

Speaking at the occasion the Home Minister said, “On the occasion of Sardar Patel Jayanti, I extend my wishes for Unity Day. The entire country celebrates this day as Unity Day since 2014. We all know that after independence, the British left this country to disintegrate. At that time, our iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel did the work of making the map of India by uniting more than 550 princely states into a thread of unity in a few days.”

Home Minister Shah further said that it is due to the strong determination and willpower of the Iron Man, that India is standing in front of the world with dignity.

“To unite this vast country spread from Kashmir to Lakshadweep, Sardar Patel played a vital role. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given him the deserved tribute by building the world’s tallest statue at Kevadia in Gujarat. Today through the ‘Run of Unity’ the entire country is bonded in the thread of unity. This day has historic importance as today is the first Unity Day which is being celebrated after the beginning of ‘Amrit Kaal’ of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.”

He further said that during the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Prime Minister Modi has reiterated that from ‘Amrit Kaal’ to 100 years of Indian Independence celebrations, after these 25 years of Amrit Kaal, nation to be determined so that India would stand first in every field in the world.

“The pledge of Unity Day becomes very important to fulfil this vision. PM Modi will address the nation from Kevadia. Today, more than 7,700 candidates are going to participate in the ‘Run for Unity’. Let us take the pledge that in the coming 25 years we build India as the most progressed country in the world and fulfil the vision of Sardar Patel,” he added.

Every year, October 31 is observed as National Unity Day.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel served as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister between 1947 to 1950.

He was a senior Congress leader and is remembered for the unification of India’s over 550 princely states into a single country. (ANI)
