Hands-on training on animal disease diagnosis begins at SKUAST-K

Ganderbal, Sept 20: A three-day programme ‘An approach to animal disease diagnosis: Hands-on training on histopathology and cytology’ Wednesday commenced at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shuhama campus.
The training is organised by the university’s Faculty of Veterinary Sciences under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institution development of SKUAST-K.
Students from different colleges and universities of Kashmir division including Central University of Kashmir, Kashmir University, RRIUM Kashmir University, SP College and students from various subject matter faculties of SKUAST-Kashmir are participating in the programme.
Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Prof Mohammad Tufail Banday, who was also chief guest at the inaugural session, highlighted the importance of organising such skill-based diagnostic hands-on training programmes.
Head, Division of Veterinary Pathology, Prof Shoaib Ahmad Kamil, presented the overview of the activities and the short and long-term goals of the division in pursuance with the vision of the University for lab-to-land transfer of technologies.
He highlighted the pivotal role of the Pathology Division in the early diagnosis of various economically important diseases and infectious zoonotic diseases of public health importance.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Masood Saleem Mir. Later the technical session was started in which experts from different reputed universities from across the country spoke on various topics.
The lecture delivered by Dr Rajinder Sing from Indian Veterinary Research Institute on, “Diagnosis of disease based on Anatomical pathology” was the highlight of the technical session on the first day of the programme.
