Srinagar, Feb 13: The residents of Chandapora, Habba Kadal, are facing severe hardships due to the poor condition of the main road, which hasn’t been repaired for over a year. The issue arose after drainage work in the area was left incomplete, leaving the road damaged and unsafe for commuting, locals said.
According to residents, the road, which connects several areas of Srinagar, has become a major inconvenience for both locals and commuters. Snow and rain during the harsh winter months turn the road in shambles into a muddy and slippery path, adding more to the peoples’ woes.
Jannat, a local resident, said that the road is a lifeline for many as it links several parts of Srinagar. However, its terrible condition has made life miserable. “Walking or driving on it has become a tough struggle,” she said. “The drainage system work was left incomplete, leaving the road damaged.”
Shabir Ahmad, a shopkeeper, said that local businesses are also suffering due to the poor road conditions. “The road has been left incomplete for so long due to unfinished drainage work. It has become a nightmare for everyone. When it rains or snow falls, the road turns so muddy that people avoid using it,” he said. Meanwhile, Shameema Firdous, MLA Habba Kadal, assured that the road would be repaired soon. “We are aware of the grievances of the people. Due to sub-zero temperatures and the winter season, the repair work was delayed. Now, with the change in season, we will ask the authorities to start road repairs. Once the budget is finalized, the issue will be addressed without delay,” she said. She added that she is committed to resolving the problems faced by locals and ensuring better connectivity on the Chandapora to Barbarshah route.
