Bandipora, Aug 26: Atleast fourteen dedicated gynaecologists have been deputed to the Gurez Valley of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, putting an end to a longstanding absence of gynaecological services in the valley.
As per the details available with Rising Kashmir, the move comes after a nearly decade-long gap in gynaecologist services in the area, causing expecting mothers to relocate to Bandipora tehsil before the winter months.
As per the order a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir reads, in the interest of patient care and smooth functioning of Operation Theatre at SDH Gurez Bandipora, a team of fourteen doctors with specialization in Gynecology are hereby deployed to SDH Gurez Bandipora who will perform their duties from 25 August 2023 to 30 May 2024 as per the well-structured roster.
The absence of a gynaecologist in Gurez Valley since 2011 has been a matter of deep concern for the local community, a local social activist wished not to be named told Rising Kashmir adding this situation led to the relocation of expecting mothers during the harsh winter season, posing various challenges and risks to maternal and infant health.
He said that for years, the locals had been vocal about the urgent requirement for gynaecological services in the Gurez valley.
Addressing this pressing issue, the Health Department took proactive steps in November 2022 by deploying 14 gynaecologists according to a meticulously planned roster. However, only a few of these specialists were able to join their duties at that time, he said.
The absence of gynaecologists for so many years was a concern. “We appreciate the government’s response in addressing this critical healthcare gap and hope that the doctors will fully serve the gurez valley as per the roster”, he added.
