Gujjarpati encounter: Police & SFs tighten cordon after gunfire erupts

Srinagar, Jan 19: An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway in Gujjarpati area of Zaloora of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, in which one terrorist is likely believed to be trapped, police said.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that some gunshots were heard from Gujarpati Zaloora area following which cordon was tightened around the area.
In a post on X, Kashmir Zone Police said that during a CASO launched by Police & SFs at Gujarpati Zaloora, Sopore a hideout was busted. During the same, fire was observed from inside. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow, he said.
“After a brief exchange of firing between terrorists and security forces, no fresh contact was established with the hiding terrorist. However, search operations are still on in the area, he said.
The officer said local terrorists are believed to be trapped inside the target area and security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.
He said a gunfight broke out on Sunday late evening after the Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
“As the search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorist opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” he said.
The official said that they have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed. Currently firing has stopped from both sides,” he said.
In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of more lights, multiple layer cordon. ” he said.
