Pulwama, Mar 16: The Jammu and Kashmir government has proposed to cover 1,446 hectares of land under the High-Density Plantation Scheme in the next financial year.
The information was provided by the Minister In-charge of Agriculture Production in the Legislative Assembly in response to a question by MLA Zainapora, Showkat Hussain Ganie. The minister stated that the district-wise proposed targets for the scheme are based on the current year’s budget provisions, as the exact allocation for the upcoming financial year is yet to be determined.
It was also revealed that a total of 6,240 applications have been received from farmers and horticulturists across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In Jammu Division, the total proposed target is 553 hectares, with 885 applications received. The district with the highest proposed coverage is Reasi (112 hectares), followed by Kishtwar (70), Jammu (71), and Udhampur (61). The highest number of applications has been received from Doda (223) and Udhampur (102).
In Kashmir Division, the total proposed target is 893 hectares, with 5,355 applications received.
Budgam leads with 635 hectares, followed by Bandipora (88), Pulwama (90), and Kupwara. However, Shopian has received the highest number of applications (369), followed by Kulgam (329) and Kupwara (308).
The High-Density Plantation Scheme aims to enhance horticulture production by introducing modern, space-efficient plantation methods.
The overwhelming number of applications reflects strong interest from farmers and horticulturists across the Union Territory.
