Govt providing financial, marriage assistance to militancy-hit victims

Srinagar, Aug 09: The Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Council of the Social Welfare Department is providing monthly financial assistance through various schemes to the victims of militancy. The beneficiaries include the specially-abled, widows and old-age persons.
An official from the Social Welfare Department said, “A pension of Rs 1000 is provided to widows, specially-abled and old persons, which is directly transferred into their accounts on a monthly basis.”
He said the marriage assistance for young widows and grown-up daughters is being provided at a per-case rate of Rs 50,000, which is also transferred into their bank accounts. Psychological rehabilitation financial assistance and financial assistance for exceptional cases are also provided.
In addition to the fixed targets for coverage of militancy-hit victims, the council is also providing motorised tricycles to the specially-abled persons to enhance their mobility hassle-free, the official said, adding that this facility was provided in both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union territories.
He said that during the years 2022-23, the council procured 2832 units of motorised tricycles through the Director State Motor Garages Jammu and Kashmir. The distribution of these tricycles has recently been made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at SKICC Srinagar. 
The JK State Rehabilitation Council, in collaboration and funding with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Department of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs, has been organising the Youth Exchange Programme with a view to exposing the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to the vibrant development and vitality of culture of people residing in other States in the country, the official said.
He said the youth exchange programme ‘Watan Ko Jano’ has been one such initiative in which the militancy-hit children and weaker sections of society in Jammu & Kashmir are participating.
