Handwara, Dec 09: Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara organised its first-ever sports and cultural event, “Synapse 24” on Monday showcasing the talent of medical students through poetry, dance, and skits.
The event highlighted the richness of local culture and marked a significant milestone for the institution.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan said, “GMC Handwara is the latest medical college in Jammu and Kashmir. A lot of effort has gone into establishing it as a premier institution. Additionally, DNB programs will soon commence, further enhancing its academic profile.”
Sudan lauded the event as a commendable effort to nurture creativity and cultural awareness among students.
Principal GMC Handwara, Prof. Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Wani, emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities alongside academics. “Such events will continue in the future, fostering holistic development for students,” he said.
On the hospital infrastructure, he added, “The 200-bed facility constructed by the JK Housing Board is ready. Only the installation of lifts and heating arrangements remains, which will be completed by the end of this month, resolving all hospital-related issues.”
The event also included a felicitation ceremony for winners of sports competitions held last month. It was attended by the Chairman of District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Pandithpori, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan, Senior Superintendent of Police Handwara M. Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary, and other dignitaries.
Organised under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Wani, Synapse 24 served as a platform to celebrate both cultural vibrancy and academic excellence, setting a precedent for future events at GMC Handwara.
