Srinagar, Aug 16: GGM Science College Jammu celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, while also honouring the memory of those who lost their lives in the recent cloudburst tragedy at Padder, Kishtwar.As per a statement issued the ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal, Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, in the presence of the teaching and non-teaching staff. The NCC Boys and NCC Girls contingents, led by Dr. Devinder Kumar and Dr. Shafia Saleem, added grandeur to the occasion, embodying the spirit of discipline, unity, and national pride. In a solemn moment of solidarity, the gathering observed two minutes of silence to pay homage to the victims, reflecting the institution’s compassion and sense of shared responsibility in times of adversity. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta principal of the College added that, “Independence is not just the celebration of our hard-earned freedom, it is also a reminder of our duty towards one another as a nation.” He said: “We salute the sacrifices that gave us liberty, we also stand in grief with the families affected by the Padder, Kishtwar tragedy. True patriotism lies in standing united—in joy as well as in sorrow. The event was thus a poignant blend of national pride and heartfelt condolence, reminding everyone that the essence of freedom is strengthened by unity, empathy and collective.”
