Srinagar, Feb 21: Janata Dal United (JDU) J&K President G M Shaheen on Friday called upon party leaders and workers to gear up for the upcoming Panchayat elections and proactively engage with the public.
Shaheen, accompanied by the party’s executive team, addressed a significant public meeting at Sumbal Sonawari. Upon his arrival, he received a warm welcome from party workers, including District President Bandipora and District General Secretary Gulam Mohd Dar, the party said in a statement issued here.
In his address, the JDU leader highlighted critical issues faced by the local population, particularly the shortage of drinking water in the region. He appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the grievances of stone quarry workers and provide them with necessary relief. Expressing dissatisfaction with the current administration, he accused the NC-led government of failing to resolve public concerns and criticised it for a “slow pace of development” on the ground.
Looking ahead to upcoming electoral challenges, Shaheen stressed the need for JDU to focus on the current political landscape and urged leaders and workers to prioritise the demands of the people. He called for greater engagement with the community to better understand and address their needs.
In a significant announcement, he revealed that the Agriculture Minister of the Government of India and the Panchayat Minister will visit the Kashmir Valley in March, marking an important political development for the region. The state executive body of JDU also addressed the public gathering, reaffirming the party’s commitment to working for the welfare of the people.
