GCW Udhampur organises symposium on corruption

Udhampur, Dec 25: The Department of Political Science, Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur, under the aegis of IQAC and the patronage of the principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania, organised a symposium on the theme “Corruption In India: A Menace To
Good Governance” at college campus.
The purpose of the competition was to inculcate among the students the sense of Integrity, Honesty, Ethics, Values and Vigilance and to make them aware about the role of good administration and civil Society in the development of our nation.
Principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania, the chief guest on the occasion, in her speech, congratulated the HOD and other staff of the department for organising such a brain-storming event. He exhorted upon the importance of realising the importance of Ethics, Values and Integrity for the administration, Government as well as for the citizens at large and for realising the principles of democracy in India. She advised the students to take part in such events in future also which will inspire them to develop in themselves the good moral character and ethics.
Earlier, the Programme began with the formal welcome address by Prof. Swarna Devi, HOD, Political Science. She highlighted the concept of Corruption and its adverse effects on good governance. She focussed that corruption does not mean giving or taking bribe only but if a teacher does not come in the class on time or if a student bunks his or her class, is also a kind of corruption.
She advised the students that we should avoid such behaviour in order to eradicate corruption in all forms and also to remain vigilant towards such acts by the administrators and to report any such event if it happens anywhere at any time. Total 12 students participated in the symposium competition. All students presented their view points in their own different ways. Jahnvi Bakshi Stood first, Diksha stood second and Tania Patyal secured 3rd position. Dr. Ravinder Kumar, HOD Mathematics, Prof. Yash Paul, HOD History, Prof. Shama Rani, Asstt. Prof. Dogri, were the Jury members in the event. They judged the programme in a judicious manner. The proceedings of the event were carried out by Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Lone, Lecturer, Political Science. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Roohul Amin Malik, Lecturer, Political Science.
The whole event was organised by Prof. Swarna Devi, HOD, Political Science, Dr. Nazim Mohi Ud Din, Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Lone and Dr. Roohul Amin Malik. Other members, who were present on the occasion, were Dr. Indu Khajuria, Dr. Monika Gupta, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Prof. Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof. Shama Rani, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Gohhar Ahmad, Sareer etc.
