GCW Gandhi Nagar organises debate competition on “Cyber Space: Boon or Curse”

Jammu, Nov 22: Department of Computer Application Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, organized a thought-provoking debate competition on the topic “Cyberspace: Boon or Curse”.
The event, held under the patronage of the college Principal, Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Sarswat, aimed to engage students in a meaningful discussion on the pros and cons of cyberspace in modern life.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Arjun Kotwal, Head of the Department of Computer Application, who welcomed the participants, faculty members, jury, and students. In his speech, Prof. Kotwal emphasized the dual nature of cyberspace, highlighting its revolutionary impact on communication alongside concerns about privacy violations and cybercrime.
Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Sarswat, the college Principal, lauded the organizing committee for hosting the event and encouraged students to actively participate in such activities. He stressed the importance of awareness regarding cybercrime and responsible digital behavior.
Fifteen students competed in the debate, presenting well-reasoned arguments for and against the topic. The first position was bagged by Khushboo Jamwal of Semester 1st, second position by Mayuri Sharma of semester 3rd and third position by Iffat Jabin of semester 3rd.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic audience of 149 students, who listened attentively to the participants. The jury for the event comprised Dr. Renu Anand (HoD, Mathematics), Dr. Rawan Kumar (Physics), and Dr. Vijender Kumar (HoD, Sanskrit). Faculty members Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar (HoD, History), Prof. Yash Pal, Prof. Paramjit Singh (HoD, Economics) and Prof. Naresh Sharma also graced the occasion with their presence.
The program was expertly moderated by Anjali Choudhary and Palakdeep Kour, with technical support provided by Ranjan Dubey and Daljit Singh.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Rohit Gupta, leaving participants and the audience inspired to think critically about the impact of cyberspace in their lives. The whole event was organized by the faculty members of the department of Computer Application which includes Prof. Arjun Kotwal (HoD), Prof. Rohit Gupta, Prof. Paramjit Singh and Prof. Amjed Khan Bhatti.
