Ganderbal, Mar 17: Residents of the Manigam area in Ganderbal district are expressing grave concerns over the illegal dumping of garbage along the banks of the Sind River. The accumulation of waste not only highlights poor solid waste management practices but also poses significant health and environmental risks, according to locals.
Despite the presence of a segregation shed, officials have been accused of neglecting proper disposal methods, leading to the buildup of trash near the river. Residents lamented that despite being charged Rs 100 for garbage collection, the waste is often improperly disposed of along the river banks, exacerbating the problem.
In response to the outcry, an official assured swift action, stating that strict directives have been issued against dumping waste along the Sind banks.
Offenders will be held accountable, and measures will be taken to promptly clear the trash. The official emphasized the importance of implementing segregation sheds and modern waste processing machinery to ensure proper waste management in the area.
