Four members of a Bakerwal family lost their lives in the mountainous district of Kishtwar when a tree fell on the makeshift tent they were residing in.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, as they mourn the untimely loss of their loved ones.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Khalil Ahmad Poswal told Rising Kashmir that the tree fall claimed the lives of four family members.
He said that the the tree fell during the late hours of the night amidst strong winds and intense rainfall in the region.
“A rescue operation is currently underway to address the aftermath of this unfortunate event,” he said.
The deceased have been identified as Nazir Ahmed, Anwar Begum w/o Nazir Ahmed, Shama Begum (wife of Shoket Ahmed), and Shakeel Bano all residents of Kathua district.
An official confirmed that tragic deaths were likely caused by a massive tree collapsing onto the family’s dwelling.
