Jammu, Dec 17: Ladakh mourns the loss of one of its most esteemed leadersHaji Ghulam Hassan Khan, who passed away this morning in Jammu.
A distinguished political figure and a dedicated public servant, Khan Sahib’s contributions to Ladakh’s development and welfare will forever remain etched in the region’s history.
Born and raised in Ladakh, Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan began his illustrious career as a decorated IPS officer, serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) before transitioning into public life. As a two-time MP, he championed Ladakh’s rights on the national stage and played a pivotal role in its development.
The passing of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan has drawn tributes from leaders across the political, religious, and social spectrum.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), expressed his deep sorrow, stating: “It saddens me to learn about the demise of Ghulam Hassan Khan, a two-time Member of Parliament from Ladakh, a decorated IPS officer, and a dedicated public servant. His discipline, commitment, and tireless service to the people of Ladakh will forever be remembered. May his soul rest in peace.”
Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, paid tribute to the late leader’s legacy, saying: “His tireless efforts towards Ladakh’s development and his unwavering dedication to public service will continue to inspire future generations.”
Prominent religious scholars, including Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi of Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil, also mourned the loss, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to social and religious causes in Ladakh.
Former Chairman of the J&K Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali, remembered Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan as a foundational figure in Ladakh’s modern history, highlighting his dedication to public welfare and community development.
MP Ladakh Haji Haneefa Jan in a post on “X” said “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, a visionary leader, dedicated politician, and true statesman. A retired DIG and two-time Member of Parliament and a senior leader of National Conference, Khan Sahib devoted his life to the welfare of Ladakh and its people. His unwavering commitment to justice, progress, and unity leaves behind an enduring legacy that will inspire generations.”
Born in the picturesque region of Ladakh, his tireless efforts for the rights and aspirations of Ladakhi citizens have shaped the political and social landscape of the region. Khan Sahib’s leadership, compassion, and dedication earned him respect far beyond his constituency.
