Srinagar, Feb 01: Prominent Politician Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Wednesday emphasised on the need for a formal order restraining land retrieval from commoners imperative:
In a statement issued to Rising Kashmir, Mir welcomed the government’s decision to retrieve state land from big fish that has been usurped illegally.
“It is a welcome step and the government should have done it years before. However, in the meantime, the interest of the general public and poor sections of society should be taken into prime consideration,” he said.
Mir added that the government must pass an order where the poor and general public having small chunks of land under their positions for shelter, cowsheds or even agricultural land is spared.
Mir also emphasised on the importance of the three-tier Panchayat Raj system that plays an important role in transforming rural areas across the country.
He urged the local populace to take part in the upcoming Panchayat elections while saying that such a system has immensely empowered the general public of villages.
“This system provides a window of opportunity for bolstering sustainable development in the rural areas in the shape of establishing primary education facilities, better healthcare, agricultural innovations and participation of women folk in the local governance,” he said
“It is a need of the hour for upgrading our district-level educational institutions wherein the establishment of a cluster university remains imperative just in line with Srinagar Cluster University. It will create more opportunities for our students who may not have to travel to the capital for higher education anymore. Besides, it will compliment the ailing economy of the district by generating considerable employment,” he said.
Taking strong notice of the mismanagement of previous governments in Chadoora, Zaffer said people are suffering primarily because their elected representatives were too busy in their own affairs while the public welfare works came to a sudden halt.
