Ganderbal, Mar 13: Residents in the Rezan area of Gund, situated in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, have raised concerns over the deteriorating state of a forest department building. Constructed in 2006 at a substantial cost, the building was initially intended to serve as accommodation for forest department employees and as a strategic center to combat forest smuggling activities in the region.
However, according to sources, the building has been neglected by the department after its initial use, leading to its current dilapidated condition. Local residents express bewilderment over the lack of maintenance, highlighting that the building has remained unused and decaying for over a decade, with broken windows exacerbating its condition.
Locals emphasize the importance of repairing the structure, urging the forest department to take immediate action. They assert that if the department claims ownership of the building, it should fulfill its responsibility to restore it to a functional state.
In response to the community’s outcry, officers have been urged to prioritize the restoration of the building, emphasizing the need for prompt attention to address the long-standing issue.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the DFO of Ganderbal he said that he will look into the matter
