Ganderbal, Feb 07: In a significant move to ensure the provision of safe, healthy, and sustainable food to the general public, the Food Safety Department of Ganderbal conducted a rigorous inspection of roadside eateries in the main market of Kangan. The drive was led by Shiraz Ahmad Mir, the Designated Officer of Food Safety, along with a team of Food Safety Officers.
During the inspection, the team emphasized the importance of adhering to Schedule-4 of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and the associated rules and regulations of 2011. These guidelines pertain to hygiene, sanitation, and other essential requirements for food establishments. The officials directed the eateries to strictly comply with these standards to ensure public health and safety.
The inspection revealed several violations, including the presence of unhygienic conditions and the use of rotten food items. The team took immediate action by destroying the substandard food on the spot. Additionally, the department has decided to file challans under Section 56 of the FSS Act against the violators. These cases will be presented before the competent court for further legal action.
Shiraz Ahmad Mir stated, “Our primary objective is to safeguard the health of the public by ensuring that food businesses operate in compliance with the highest standards of hygiene and safety. We will continue to conduct such drives and take strict action against those who fail to meet the required norms.”
The Food Safety Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of food adulteration or unhygienic practices to the authorities. This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to promote food safety and protect consumers from health hazards.
The crackdown has been welcomed by local residents, who have expressed their support for stricter enforcement of food safety regulations. The department has assured that such inspections will be conducted regularly to maintain the quality and safety of food served in the district.
