Baramulla, Oct 02: A fierce fire engulfed five residential houses in Shalkote village of Rafiabad in Sopore on Monday morning, leaving the affected families homeless.
An official from the Fire & Emergency Services told Rising Kashmir that the houses belonged to Baldev Singh, son of Maya Singh; Deedar Singh, son of Maya Singh; Mangat Singh alias Iqbal Singh; Charan Singh, son of Maya Singh; and Karnail Singh, son of Fakir Singh, all residents of Shalkote Rafiabad in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
He said the fire services officials, along with local residents, police, and army personnel, worked tirelessly to control the flames. Despite their efforts, the fire couldn’t be contained, resulting in significant damage to the houses, he said
Fortunately, no loss of life was reported in the incident, although the families have lost their homes and belongings, the official said, adding that the cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine its origin.
The affected families received immediate assistance from the local community, police, and the army during the firefighting operations. However, due to the village’s distance from the town, the damage to the houses was extensive, leaving the families in dire need of support.
The local residents have urged the district administration to provide assistance to the victims. They also demanded a fire service station in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
