Shopian, Sept 03: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against unknown persons for damaging the apples at Imam sahib area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Senior Superintendent of Police for Shopian, Tanushree, informed Rising Kashmir that they have taken a cognisance of the incident at Imam Sahib area of the Southern district.
“A case has been registered in this incident”, she said.
On the intervening night of 2 and 3 September many boxes of apples were damaged from the orchard of two apple growers at Wacuhallan village of Imam Sahib area of Shopian district.
The orchard is owned by Gulzar Ahmad Mir and his brother.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Gulzar Ahmad Mir narrated that the Kulu Delicious variety of apple, which were near to ripening, were damaged from an orchard owned by him and his brother.
He said that the orchard is spread on 8 Kanals of land and produces around 500 boxes of apples.
He said miscreants have caused immense damage to the fruit by causing its immature fall from trees.
“ Around 350 boxes of apples have been damaged by thrashing ,” he said, adding that he suffered loss of 200 boxes while his brother lost 150 boxes.
He narrated that this incident has caused him and his brother a big loss as they solely derive their livelihood from apple farming.
He said that officials from the police and horticulture department on Sunday visited the spot.
The apple grower said that police have lodged an FIR into the incident.
Horticulture Development Officer Imam Sahib, Ghulam Mohammad, said that they visited the site.
” Roughly, 200 to 300 boxes of apples have been damaged, ” he said, adding that the apples were near to ripening.
