Jammu, Sept 30: The third and final phase of the assembly elections is set to take place tomorrow, and it is pivotal for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which asserts that Jammu will play a crucial role in determining the next government.
A total of 40 assembly seats are up for election, with 24 in the Jammu region and 16 in Kashmir.
BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, has said that this is the first time Jammu will influence the formation of the government in J&K.
During a rally at MA Stadium on September 28, PM Modi rallied supporters with the slogan, “Jammu Ki Yehi Pukaar, Aa Rahi Hai BJP Sarkar.” “The Jammu region has been neglected by three dynastic parties, but now it will decide the next government, and the BJP will deliver justice to Jammu,” he said.
Amit Shah echoed similar views at various election rallies in Jammu during which he said that Jammu faced discrimination. He also said that Jammu will be decisive in the assembly elections.
The BJP is counting on its stronghold in Jammu to secure a majority. In the last assembly election, the party won most of the seats in this region, and it also led in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, claiming victory in 29 assembly segments across Jammu.
In the Jammu division, the Jammu district has the highest representation with 11 segments (Bishnah-SC, Suchetgarh-SC, R S Pura, Jammu South, Bahu, Jammu East, Nagrota, Jammu West, Jammu North, Akhnoor-SC, and Chhamb), followed by six seats in Kathua district (Bani, Billawar, Basohli, Jasrota, Kathua-SC, and Hiranagar), four in Udhampur district (Udhampur West, Udhampur East, Chenni, and Ramnagar-SC), and three in Samba (Ramgarh-SC, Samba, and Vijaypur).
With all 24 assembly segments being strongholds for the BJP, the party believes these seats are crucial for forming the next government in J&K.
