Srinagar, April 25: An encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists is underway in Nowpora village of north Kashmir’s Soporetownship in which a top LeT terrorist commander is believed to be trapped, officials said.
In a post on X, a Police spokesman said that an encounter has started at Check MohallaNowpora in the area of PD Sopore. Police & security forces are on the job.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that the top LeT terrorist commander is believed to be trapped inside the target area. Presently search operation is underway and firing from both sides has been stopped, he said.
“A civilian, identified as Farooq Ahmed Dar, a lab technician residing in Check MohallaNowpora in Sopore, was injured by a stray bullet to his shoulder. He was shifted to a nearby health facility and his condition is stated to be stable.
Earlier gunfight broke out on Thursday evening after the Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
“As the search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorist opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” he said.
The Police Officer said security forces have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed.
In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of more lights, multiple layer cordon, etc” he said.
Meanwhile, searches continued in Mulkhyama forests of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district for a second day on Thursday. Two Army men were injured in the operation. Drones and other high-end equipment were used to track the terrorists in dense forces of Aragam in Renji Forest in Bandipora.
