Kulgam, Mar 19: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and former Member Legislative Assembly Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday said that elections in J&K will put an end to the day-to-day sufferings of people.
He was addressing a party convention in the Kulgam district.
Besides Tarigami, District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Mohd Afzal Parray, DDC member Qaimoh B, Mohd Abass Rather, and others also addressed the Kulgam town workers convention.
Talking to reporters after the event, Tarigami said all-party delegation met the Election Commission of India and informed them that J&K is the only state in India with no elected government in place since 2018 which is sheer injustice.
“It is very unfortunate and against the spirit of the constitution that we don’t have an elected government here. And our leaders before ECI made the point that people in J&K don’t have a place to go to get their problems resolved,” Tarigami said.
The bureaucratic system in this situation does not address the people’s concerns. So, holding elections will help in solving the people’s issues and the fact that elections have been delayed for so long is unfortunate, he said.
Regarding employment, Tarigami said, our youth were beaten for demanding that their exams be held by a better firm. He stated that the government’s only source of employment is batons.
Tarigami said they have requested the government to provide tested fertilizers and pesticides for a bumper fruit season, citing that the growers had issues in this regard last year.
He stated that they, along with Shimla growers, will stage a protest in Delhi in the future to advocate for better opportunities for our growers.
