Kargil, May 11: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the pioneering “Vote from Home” initiative in Kargil, aimed at facilitating voting for senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities (PwDs). The initiative, marking a significant milestone in India’s electoral landscape, commenced on May 10th, 2024, under the leadership of District Electoral Officer (DEO) Shrikant Suse.
Assistant Returning Officer Postal Kargil, Abdul Hadi, highlighted the initiative’s success in enabling eligible voters to exercise their rights without impediments. On the inaugural day, a total of 47 votes were cast out of 295 eligible voters, including 149 senior citizens, 99 PwDs, and 47 individuals from essential services, demonstrating the initiative’s broad impact.
The electoral process in Kargil has been meticulously organized into 7 zones to ensure efficient management until its culmination on May 16th, 2024. Stringent security measures and the deployment of micro observers have been put in place to uphold the integrity of the proceedings.
Abdul Hadi emphasized the collective responsibility of stakeholders in safeguarding the electoral process, urging citizens to actively participate in shaping the democratic narrative by casting their votes. He reiterated the ECI’s commitment to ensuring that every vote counts, underscoring the principle of democratic representation.
