Srinagar, Jun 16: The Department of Urdu at Amar Singh College recently hosted its Annual Urdu Mushaira, drawing a diverse group of student poets and literature enthusiasts to the college campus.
The evening opened with a moving choral performance of a poem by Allama Iqbal, presented by the students of the Urdu Department. The soulful rendition set an inspiring tone for the event, evoking deep emotions and paying tribute to the legacy of classical Urdu poetry.
In his welcome address, Professor Mohammad Aslam, Head of the Urdu Department, emphasised the significance of creative expression in academic life. He encouraged students to engage with Urdu poetry not only as a form of artistic exploration but also as a means of intellectual growth.
Presiding over the event as chief guest, Professor Ajaz Ahmad Hakak, Principal of Amar Singh College, lauded the department’s efforts in organising the Mushaira. He reiterated the college’s commitment to nurturing literary and cultural activities and expressed hope that such platforms would continue to amplify the voices of emerging poets.
The centrepiece of the programme was the Mushaira itself, where students from various academic disciplines presented their original compositions. Their heartfelt and thought-provoking verses captivated the audience, transforming the auditorium into a space of shared emotion, reflection, and celebration of the Urdu language.
Stage proceedings were expertly managed by Dr Javeed Rasool, while Professor Niyaz Ali offered a critical appreciation of the poetic works presented, highlighting the depth and diversity of themes explored. Dr Shabeena Parveen delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants, faculty, and guests who made the event a resounding success.
The Annual Urdu Mushaira once again affirmed Amar Singh College’s dedication to fostering literary talent and preserving the cultural richness of Urdu poetry among the younger generation.
