Drug peddler’s illegal properties worth Rs. 50 lacs seized in Magam

Srinagar, May 02: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday attached a residential house worth approx. Rs. 50.00 lacs belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Kunzar, Magam area of district Baramulla.
A police officer said that they have attached properties (9 Marlas Land and double storied residential houses worth approx. Rs. 50.00 lacs) belonging to notorious drug peddler Shabir Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Mazhama,Magam District Budgam.
“The action was taken under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act of 1985 & is linked with case FIR No.05/2024 u/s 8/20,22&29 NDPS Act of PS Kunzer.”
He said that the property was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of investigation/enquiry conducted by Police. This operation reaffirms the commitment of Police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area hailed the initiative of the Police.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” the officer said.
The spokesman said that community members are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
So far police have arrested 145 drug peddlers, including 36 hardcore offenders who have been booked under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and have seized 14 vehicles used for drug trafficking till April 2024 in Baramulla.
“Baramulla police have registered 79 cases under NDPS act, arrested 145 drug peddlers which include 36 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS and PSA,” the officer said.
He said that they have also seized 14 vehicles and cash 1.57 lakhs from drug peddlers in Baramulla district till April 2024. The properties were primarily acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the drug peddlers, the official said.
