Srinagar, Jul 02: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday extended warm greetings to All India Radio Srinagar (formerly Radio Kashmir Srinagar) on the occasion of its foundation day.
He expressed hope that the institution will continue to play a vital role in promoting and preserving the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Recalling the station’s origins, Dr Abdullah said it was established by his father, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, with the inaugural broadcast featuring a recitation from the Holy Quran by Begum Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
He noted that ever since its inception, the station has served as a platform not only for entertainment but also for raising the issues and concerns of the people of Kashmir. “AIR Srinagar has played a remarkable role in shaping the cultural consciousness of our society. Its contributions to literature, music, and public awareness are unparalleled,” he added.
The NC chief expressed confidence that the station will continue to serve as a voice for the people and a beacon of Kashmir’s artistic and cultural expression. He emphasised the need for AIR Srinagar to further improve its entertainment content—both in quality and variety—to better meet the evolving tastes and expectations of its diverse audience.
