Anantnag, Mar 22: A team of doctors at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara demonstrated unwavering commitment to their patient as they performed an emergency LSCS (Lower Segment Caesarean Section) during the intense tremors on Tuesday night.
Despite the frightening situation, the medical professionals remained composed and provided critical care to their patient.
A video of a successful LSCS has gone viral on social media, with netizens praising the doctors for their skill and dedication.
The video showcases the seamless execution of the procedure, demonstrating the medical team’s commitment to ensuring safe deliveries for their patients despite intense tremors.
Dr Shabeena Shah, the gynecologist who was performing the LSCS said, this was their third surgery in the evening when the tremors struck.
“Allahamdulillah, it was a team effort. At the moment, my whole team was there for the patient. Patients are our first priority, we stood despite the earthquake and thankfully we successfully performed the LSCS,” she said.
She said that despite experiencing a minor earthquake, the surgical team remained undeterred in their efforts to perform a successful operation.
“While the memory of the recent earthquake in Turkey lingered in the back of our minds, the team pushed forward, ultimately delivering a healthy baby and ensuring the patient’s well-being,” Dr. Shabeena said.
She further added that the team expressed relief at having found themselves on the fortunate side of the situation, and are grateful for the positive outcome.
Chief Medical Officer, Anantnag, Dr MY Zagoo told Rising Kashmir that they have started the 24/7 maternity facilities at this SDH Bijbehara with the due support of Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Bhupinder Kumar.
“We have been doing Emergency and routine LSCS at this new building of SDH which in itself is a feat. Director Health and District Administration Anantnag provided us support in ensuring this facility at this periphery hospital,” he said.
CMO Anantnag said that when the major earthquake struck, the hospital staff was doing a third LSCS at the hospital in the evening time.
“We are fortunate enough that the patient is doing well and the baby too. The doctors did a commendable job. Doctors and paramedical staff who did this exemplary job at SDH Bijbehara deserve applause,” CMO said, adding that such surgeries are mostly done at Maternity and Child Care Hospitals.
The attendant of the patient told Rising Kashmir that they are highly grateful to the doctors for being focused when others were running for their safety.
“I was outside the operation theater when we felt tremors, credit goes to doctors for such extreme professionalism at a time when everyone was frightened. Both the patient and baby boy are fine, thanks to Almighty Allah and the doctors for brilliant work with honesty in such a critical situation,” he said.
“The patient had gotten frightened, but we must thank the gynecologist who gave her the best possible moral support and continued the job.”
After the video sent viral, Secretary H&ME Department Bhupinder Kumar IAS extended his deep appreciation and best wishes to the Medical staff of SDH Bijbehara for this act of courage and bravery.
Meanwhile, Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Rather appreciated the surgeon and her staff for maintaining their calm and composure during the earthquake while performing emergency LSCS at SDH Bijbehara on Tuesday night.
“On the directions of the Secretary Health and Medical Education Department i Bhupinder Kumar Director Health Services visited SDH Bijbehara and felicitated the staff who had performed surgery without getting deterred by the earthquake,” an official said.
A netizen took to Twitter and wrote, “the way the doctor says ‘koi baat nahi, zara mujhe light dikhao’ shows her devotion towards the Almighty and her work. May Allah bless them all with the best in both worlds. Ameen.”
On Tuesday night, regions of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan witnessed massive earthquake.
The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush area, with a magnitude of 6.6.
