Anantnag, May 03: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag, in collaboration with the Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ashmuqam and the Tehsil Administration Ashmuqam, hosted a programme on the rights of labourers on “International Labour Day” here.
According to DLSA Anantnag, the programme was organised as per the plan of action formulated by the Jammu Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) for May 2024.
A member of the DLSA said the programme was organised under the supervision of Chairman DLSA Anantnag, Jaffar Hussain Beigh, and the guidance of Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Aishmuqam, Fida Hussain Nayek (Munsiff/JMIC). Secretary/Sub-Judge Tabassum Qadir Parray, DLSA Anantnag, was the Chief Guest of the program.
Tabassum Qadir, Secretary DLSA, imparted to the participants the importance of honouring and protecting the rights of workers. She urged all to stand in solidarity with the labour community.
The Secretary DLSA said that Indian labour laws and the complexities of labour rights and legal frameworks should be given due importance to understand the significance and then apply it in due course.
“The foundational pillars of the Constitution of India to the landmark legislations such as the Industrial Disputes Act, Minimum Wages Act, and Factories Act, are each designed to safeguard the interests and welfare of the labour force,” she said.
She further said that the recent judicial pronouncements and legislative amendments contextualise their implications for labour rights advocacy and enforcement.
The programme was also addressed and attended by CDPO Mehbooba Aziz; Principal of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Aishmuqam, Aijaz Ahmad Wagay; Assistant LADC Anantnag; panel lawyers; PLVs; labourers; Anganwadi workers; and officials of TLSC Aishmuqam.
“After the programme, the Secretary DLSA along with the staff conducted an inspection of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ashmuqam where the Secretary DLSA inquired about the work being carried out by staff and PLVs at Ashmuqam and also interacted with Panel Lawyers of the Tehsil Committee,” the member DLSA added.
