Srinagar, Aug 24: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, on Saturday chaired the U.T Level Project Monitoring Committee meeting at the Directorate of Sericulture Dev. Department, Tulsi Bagh Srinagar. The meeting witnessed the active participation of esteemed members from the Central Silk Board (CSB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi and Bengaluru, along with senior officials from the Sericulture Department.
The primary focus of the meeting was to review the progress of the “Silk SAMAGRA” at the District level across Jammu & Kashmir. Detailed discussions were held to assess the achievements, challenges, and future strategies for the comprehensive development of the Sericulture Sector under this flagship programme.
During the meeting, Bhat emphasised the importance of timely utilization of funds allocated under the Silk SAMAGRA programme. He highlighted that the effective and judicious use of these funds is critical for the timely implementation and success of various projects aimed at enhancing the sericulture infrastructure and boosting the income of Sericulture Farmers across the U.T.
The committee members deliberated on the specific requirements and challenges faced at the District level, identifying areas where further support from the Central Silk Board is necessary. Mr. Bhat urged all stakeholders to work in a coordinated manner to ensure that the benefits of the Silk SAMAGRA initiative reach the grassroots level and contribute to the socio-economic upliftment of the Sericulture Community in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Director appreciated the efforts made by the department in implementing the ongoing projects and called for an accelerated pace in the execution of pending tasks. He stressed the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure that the objectives of the Silk SAMAGRA programme are met within the stipulated timelines.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the need for enhanced collaboration between the Central and U.T agencies to address the emerging challenges in the Sericulture Sector and to explore new avenues for the sustainable development of the Industry in Jammu & Kashmir.
